A group of my theater buddies gathered at Hofbrauhaus for a happy hour last Friday night. I didn't bother to review Hofbrauhaus because their appetizers are unremarkable (but their beer is excellent, I rather enjoy their Munich Weizen-- love wheat beers), but we did waltz over to Dewey's for some pizza afterward. Dewey's is some of my favorite pizza in town-- not New York style, but the topping choices are excellent and the service is usually great. I also like their "specialty" pizzas-- we got a half pepperoni, half Edgar Allen Poe, which has tomatoes, goat cheese, kalamata olives, mushrooms, olive oil and whole roasted garlic on top. I love goat cheese on pizza. Terry was less impressed-- but he's not a real pizza fan. The only pizza he ever suggests we get is LaRosa's-- he's a big fan, since he likes the sweet sauce. I'm pretty sure he's the only non-native I know who loves La Rosa's. Who knew?
(And that's Jay's hand. He's the same guy who did the cheesy fish sandwich in my Arnold's review. The original picture had him giving us the finger. Not nice, Jay!)

I like Dewey's because it is the closest thing you can find (to NY style pizza) and the crust is just a little bit sweet.
My personal favorite is the Southwest BBQ Chicken. It's the only BBQ chicken pizza that I've ever found I like.
i am a non-native who also likes larosas. i am starting to think that terry and i might be food twins!
Lauren-- I love BBQ chicken pizza. I haven't tried theirs, though-- must try.

Am more of a Pomadori's fan. And, as a native Tri-Stater, I'm not a fan of LaRosa's.
It's all about the caprice (or a calzone) at Dewey's for me.
Though I do dig Papa John's and Marco's in a different style.
And I don't understand your comment about Terry not being a real pizza fan. How...but...it's pizza...
Never tried the BBQ Chx. Thanks for the raves; looking forward to trying it.
The calzones are very good although lately I feel like they've been miserly with the filling. This was at the Clifton & Kenwood locations. The Kenwood people are very friendly, at least the girls.
Liz--I LOVE LaRosa's. Perhaps we ARE non-native food twins, separated in a previous life. (By the way, I commented on your blog a while back about West Side Bingo [and the fact that neither of us non-Cincinnatians understands the obsession with "So where did you go to school?]. You said you weren't familiar with WSB. It's just like "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon," but only about a tenth as interesting.) We are indeed strangers in a strange land, are we not?
phschemguy--It's not that I dislike pizza. I just have to be in the mood for it. (And when I'm in the mood, I prefer LaRosa's.)
You have pizza from the "AV" on Belmont in Youngstown (Avalon Grdens), then you just have pizza.
I really haven't found pizza to get excited about in Cincinnati.

I have never fallen in love with the idea of specialty pizza, but I love Dewey's calzones, though it is true that sometimes they are stingy with the fillings. Also, as a non-native I have tried and just cannot get into LaRosa's (sorry!--All of my native friends love it!). For me, Adriatico's is far and away the best pizza in town.
Adriatico's IS the best pizza in town. I wished I lived closer to Clifton. However, Dewey's is pretty darn good, too. It's just not the best pizza I've ever had...Adriatico's fits that bill.
